Who is Papaplatte? From a Brandenburg high-school student to streaming star

Kevin Andreas Teller was born on January 24, 1997, in Berlin and grew up in the small town of Königs Wusterhausen in Brandenburg. His ambition showed early: he started school at five and a half – earlier than usual – and attended the Friedrich-Schiller-Gymnasium, where he graduated from high school (Abitur) in 2015.

Alongside school, Kevin discovered his passion for ballroom dancing at age eleven. He trained several times a week and even took part in dance competitions – a discipline that taught him perseverance and stage presence. But he found his true calling online early on.

The beginnings: from SchnitzelTV to Twitch

Back in 7th grade, Kevin and two school friends started the YouTube channel SchnitzelTV, where they uploaded comedy videos and challenges. The videos were chaotic, funny and typical of teenage creativity – but the project didn’t last long. When his friends lost interest, Kevin looked for new opportunities.

In November 2013, at just 16, he created his Twitch channel and started streaming. The name “Papaplatte” came about during his time as a World of Warcraft player: an older guild member called “Papa Leon” inspired the first part of the name, and since Kevin played a warrior in plate armor (Platte in German), he added “Platte” – and the brand was born.

His first streams were modest: a 4:3 monitor, no webcam, no professional equipment. While off sick from school, he streamed in the morning when the competition was still asleep and reached a proud 15 viewers. A user called “blacksteel” gave him a Minecraft key, which laid the foundation for his Minecraft career.

The breakthrough and the decision to stream

After graduating, Kevin started studying electrical engineering at TU Berlin. But after just a few months, he realized his passion was streaming. He dropped out and focused on his Twitch career full-time.

The decision paid off: in February 2014 he became a Twitch partner, and his viewer numbers kept growing. In 2016, taking part in Simon Unge’s “0Tour – Ohne Geld durch die Welt” (“around the world without money”) made him known beyond the streaming bubble for the first time. His sellout streams, in which he reacted to donation videos from the community, became cult classics.

Milestones & records

The Twitch record: In early 2021, Papaplatte and Trymacs opened a display of first-generation German Pokémon trading cards worth about €40,000 together. The event drew a combined 356,000 concurrent viewers (301,000 on Trymacs’s channel, 55,000 on Papaplatte’s) and broke Knossi’s previous German Twitch record (328,000 viewers). It marked the peak of the Pokémon hype in Germany.

Most Twitch subs in Germany: According to Wikipedia, in September 2025 Papaplatte had the most Twitch subscribers (around 28,000) and the third-most followers of any German channel.

More highlights:

  • 2021: “Papatastisch” made the top 10 of Germany’s Youth Word of the Year
  • 2021: The “Spielesause” event with Trymacs and Gronkh (up to 115,000 viewers)
  • 2023: Papaplatte played a major part in popularizing the youth word “goofy” in Germany
  • 2023: Took part in 7 vs. Wild season 3 – survived 14 days in the Canadian wilderness with Reeze
  • November 2023: Solved the Joko & Klaas puzzles with his community and found the suitcase with a symbolic €1 million inside
  • February 2024: Launched “Motor Games”, his own event in cooperation with the streaming service Joyn
  • December 2025: World of Warcraft event with HandOfBlood, Metashi and more than 200 streamers

Real-life videos, vlogs, exclusive formats and elaborately produced content. Kevin makes a point of this channel not just showing stream highlights but offering videos made specifically for YouTube.

2. Domo (formerly DomoPapaplatte):
The “daily content” channel. Edited stream highlights, reaction videos and short, punchy clips end up here. The name comes from Kevin’s fan “Domo”, which sits prominently in his streams and became a meme itself.

3. Papaplatte Gaming:
The gaming channel for longer Let’s Plays, Minecraft projects and stream recordings from the gaming side. Fans will find full sessions and less edited content here.

Edeltalk: the most successful German creator podcast

Since November 2018, Papaplatte has hosted the weekly comedy podcast Edeltalk with his best friend Dominik Reezmann (Reeze). In each episode, they talk about stories from their youth, current trends and absurd experiences – always with a healthy dose of humor. According to Wikipedia, more than 410 episodes have been released. The podcast is in German.

The podcast quickly became a success:

  • March 2022: The book “Edeltalk” was published by Riva Verlag
  • Fall 2023: Live tour through Germany and Austria
  • December 2024: Edeltalk became part of Funk, the online youth service of Germany’s public broadcasters

The Edeltour is another special feature: Kevin and Reeze travel through Europe in a motorhome and stream live every day. So far there have been four editions:

  • Edeltour 1 (August 2021): Germany, France, Italy, Austria
  • Edeltour 2 (March 2023): Scandinavia with LetsHugo
  • Edeltour 3 (September 2024): Southeastern Europe
  • Edeltour 4 (July 2025): United Kingdom

On average, 50,000 viewers watch the Edeltour streams at the same time – proof of how strong the community bond is.

Private life

Income & net worth

Papaplatte mainly earns money from Twitch subs and ads, YouTube ads, sponsorships (labeled as “Werbung”, i.e. advertising, in his videos), his merch shop and the Edeltalk podcast.

The only solid figures come from a data leak: in October 2021, the payouts of many Twitch streamers became public. According to the leak, Papaplatte earned about €1.29 million (roughly $1.4 million) from Twitch subs and ads alone between August 2019 and October 2021. There are no current figures or reliable details on his net worth.

In August 2025, his long-time former video editor made public that a revenue share had been changed to his disadvantage. Papaplatte then admitted on stream to communication failures and an “unfair” approach.

What parents should watch out for
  • livestreams with live chat
  • reaction videos (sometimes with age-restricted content)
  • horror and scary games
  • trolling and pranks
  • merch promotion and calls to buy
  • videos are in German only
  • loud, fast-cut editing

Long livestreams with crude humor, pranks and clips from games rated 16 or 18 – the German parents' guide FLIMMO rates him red. His Craft Attack streams are milder, but the chat can still be rough.

Papaplatte’s content is mainly aimed at teenagers and young adults from around 14–16. Why?

  • FLIMMO rating: The German parents’ guide rates his channel red (as of August 2026) – because of crude language, mocking others, clips from games and films rated 16 or 18, and scary content.
  • Does Papaplatte swear? Yes, quite a lot. His humor is often spontaneous, direct and crude – typical “internet humor” with memes, in-jokes and vulgar language at times.
  • Stream length: His streams often last many hours and aren’t suitable for younger children.
  • Text-to-speech donations: Donation messages are read out in his streams and can sometimes contain inappropriate content (although Kevin takes action against this).
  • Topics: Conversations about alcohol, relationships and partying – content that’s more relevant to teenagers and young adults.
  • Face reveal? Not an issue – Papaplatte shows his face on camera.

Playing the video connects to YouTube (Google). More in our privacy policy.

Positives for parents:

  • Clear community rules in the chat – hate speech, racism and toxic behavior aren’t tolerated
  • Authenticity and honesty – Kevin owns his mistakes and shows personality
  • Gaming content like Minecraft and Craft Attack is much milder than his Just Chatting streams

Recommendation: fine from around 14–16. Younger kids should watch with a parent, especially during Just Chatting streams. If your child wants to watch Craft Attack, many other participants make more kid-friendly videos.
