Who is HandOfBlood? From university dropout to gaming entrepreneur

Maximilian Paul Karl-Heinz Knabe was born on August 1, 1992, in Salzgitter-Bad and grew up as one of four siblings in Braunschweig. The name “HandOfBlood” comes from the song of the same name by the band Bullet for My Valentine, which he first heard in Need for Speed: Most Wanted. Since the name was already taken on YouTube, he added two capital I’s as separators: HandIOfIBlood.

Max attended a Waldorf school in Braunschweig until his Abitur (German high school diploma), where he learned eurythmy and the clarinet, among other things – skills his friends and colleagues regularly tease him about. After school, he studied business informatics at TU Braunschweig and paid his way with night and weekend shifts at McDonald’s.

At the end of 2013, Knabe was close to giving up on YouTube – he had only about 1,000 subscribers. But together with his fellow student Phillip “Kutcher” Traub, he developed a new channel concept focused on League of Legends. It worked: in March 2014, his video “High Elo Rentner im Interview” (“High-Elo Pensioner Interview”) went viral and gave him his breakthrough. Even Riot Games, the developer of League of Legends, praised the video.

In 2014, Max dropped out of university and started an internship at the gaming marketing agency Freaks 4U Gaming in Berlin. Afterwards, he deliberately decided against an apprenticeship in marketing communications to make YouTube his full-time job – a decision that paid off.

The YouTube era: from let’s plays to elaborate productions

The beginnings (2010–2013): HandOfBlood’s YouTube channel started on November 10, 2010, with The Lord of the Rings Online and early League of Legends guides, which filled a gap in the German-speaking market. He also made let’s plays of games like Need for Speed: Most Wanted and the horror game Amnesia: The Dark Descent, which kicked off a “horror phase” on his channel.

The breakthrough (2014–2016): After the viral success of “High Elo Rentner”, Knabe started producing videos daily. His channel concept had three sections – LoL news, LoL facts and LoL guides – with room for let’s plays and streaming. His humor made him the “troll king” of the German League of Legends scene. In April 2015, he launched his second channel “HandOfUncut” for longer, barely edited videos. In June 2016, he won the German Web Video Award (Webvideopreis Deutschland) in the gaming category.

The quality push (2016–2023): In January 2016, Knabe announced a new direction for his main channel: fewer uploads, higher quality. From then on, his videos featured elaborate editing, costumes and staging to match each game, short films, and creative challenges and parodies. This made him one of Germany’s highest-quality gaming YouTubers – but it was also time-consuming and expensive.

The big restructuring (2024): On January 7, 2023, HandOfBlood’s YouTube account was hacked. On January 16, 2024, Knabe announced a radical change of direction in his video “Schluss Damit” (“Enough of This”, part 3):

  • The elaborate productions were no longer economically viable and left little room for change
  • Paradoxically, the simple recordings on HandOfUncut went down better with viewers
  • He had lost some of his enjoyment of video production

The solution: shifting the focus from YouTube to Twitch. The main channel now only publishes established formats like “Drei schäbige Spiele”, HandOfUncut is used for stream edits (starting with Dark Souls III), and HandOfTrash shows short stream clips and reactions.

The Twitch renaissance (since 2024)

In January 2024, HandOfBlood returned to Twitch – with huge success: his first stream after the comeback ran for 8.5 hours with an average of 34,000 viewers, and on February 7, 2024, his channel hit 1,000,000 followers.

His Twitch streams cover a wide range of content:

  • League of Legends – after a break of several years, he has been playing LoL actively again since April 2024
  • Minecraft – Craft Attack (seasons 12, 13 and 14)
  • Reactions – watching and commenting on YouTube videos
  • Variety gaming – Dark Souls III, horror games, simulators, new releases
  • Esports broadcasts – Eintracht Spandau (League of Legends) and the Baller League
  • Techno Freitag – an event format with DJs and hectic games

Known projects & formats

Drei schäbige Spiele (“Three Shabby Games”)

One of the best-known formats on his main channel. HandOfBlood suffers through absurd, badly made or simply bizarre indie games and comments on them with dry humor.

Horror games with guests

HandOfBlood regularly drives fellow creators crazy in horror games – guaranteed entertainment with high view counts. HandOfUncut has its own playlist for horror let’s plays.

Simulator videos

HandOfBlood takes simulator realism to the extreme – with elaborate costumes, staging and absurd humor.

League of Legends content

His LoL videos, especially the “OP guides” like the “Yasuo OP Guide” (2013) and “Darius OP Guide” (2014), made him famous. The Darius guide gave rise to the in-joke “SCHLIATZ/SCHLITZ”, which the community still quotes today.

Craft Attack

Since season 12, HandOfBlood has been a regular on Germany’s biggest Minecraft project. On Craft Attack 14, he is building “Craft Attack on Titan” with eight colleagues; edited versions of the streams appear on HandOfUncut.

Techno Freitag

On “Techno Freitag” (“Techno Friday”), a DJ plays live while Hänno games. On August 8, 2025, the “Techno Freitag Klub Edition” took place at Modus Berlin – a 26-hour marathon with more than 20 DJs in front of a live audience; the second edition followed on June 19, 2026. An “Arena Edition” at Arena Berlin is announced for May 21, 2027; according to a press release, 5,000 tickets sold within 48 hours.

Summoner’s Inn

In 2014, Knabe co-founded the project Summoner’s Inn with Maxim Markow, which covers League of Legends and has broadcast the LCS since 2015. HandOfBlood regularly hosts esports matches.

Spandauer Inferno (2015–2021) and Eintracht Spandau (since 2021)

In 2015, Knabe founded the League of Legends team “Spandauer Inferno” (SPIN), which played in the ESL and Prime League and was promoted to the top division. Knabe left the team in spring 2017, and it disbanded in 2021.

In November 2021, HandOfBlood announced his new esports team Eintracht Spandau. Since early 2022, the team has played in the German Prime League. In 2024, it won the Prime League Spring Split and the EMEA 2 Spring Split – its first title and an international success right away.

Baller League (since 2024)

Since early 2024, Eintracht Spandau has been one of the twelve teams in the indoor football league Baller League. As “Präsident Knabe” (“President Knabe”), HandOfBlood is one of the team’s managers alongside former professional footballer Hans Sarpei.

Influencer Darts World Championship, BAAL and the Fortnite World Cup

  • Influencer Darts World Championship (since 2023): an annual event where German content creators compete at darts; held in Berlin in 2024 and 2025.
  • BAAL tournaments (since 2017): PUBG tournaments (Battlegrounds Allstars) launched together with other streamers.
  • Fortnite World Cup 2019: his team won a joint prize of $250,000; he later donated his share to the Berlin animal shelter.

INSTINCT3: his own influencer agency

In 2018, HandOfBlood co-founded the influencer agency INSTINCT3 with Henning Semrau and managing director Hendrik Ruhe. After the founding, Knabe left Freaks 4U Gaming, with whom he is still on good terms. INSTINCT3 has more than 50 employees and represents many streamers and YouTubers (see below).

Private life

Girlfriend Tamina “Mienah”

For about a decade, HandOfBlood has been in a relationship with Tamina, better known as the streamer Mienah. The two met on Twitch – Hänno was actually a viewer in her chat. Mienah runs her own fashion label and a podcast. Both keep their relationship largely out of the public eye.

His dog Falco

In 2018, HandOfBlood adopted his dog Falco from the Berlin animal shelter (Tierheim Berlin). Falco regularly appears in his social media posts – and the adoption sparked HandOfBlood’s regular donations to the shelter.

Social commitment and donations

  • Tierheim Berlin: about $45,000 in 2020 (his share of the Fortnite prize money), another roughly $11,000 in 2023 from a League of Legends bet, plus community fundraisers
  • November 2020: WWF charity livestream “Save the Jungle” – about $25,000 for forest conservation
  • September 2021: fundraiser “Together against violence against women and girls” – almost $67,000
  • 2020/2021: COVID emergency aid and flood relief

Income & net worth

How much HandOfBlood earns or owns isn’t public – there are no reliable figures. Estimates online are extrapolated from views and subscriptions and are not a trustworthy source. What is clear is where his income comes from:

  • Twitch: subscriptions, donations and ads
  • YouTube: ad revenue across several channels
  • Sponsors: labeled in his video descriptions, for example for gaming PCs, desks or concert tickets
  • His own brands: Corrupted Blood (clothing, label) and Knabe Drinks
  • Companies: INSTINCT3 and the esports team Eintracht Spandau
  • Events: for example ticket sales for Techno Freitag

What parents should watch out for
  • livestreams with live chat
  • horror and scary games
  • reaction videos (sometimes with age-restricted content)
  • merch promotion and calls to buy
  • videos are in German only
  • loud, fast-cut editing

Minecraft, Craft Attack and fun formats are mostly harmless, but there are also many horror let's plays and 16+/18+ games – which is why the German parents' guide FLIMMO rates the channel red. Check which game is on before kids watch.

  • Age: from about 12, depending on the game. The German parents’ guide FLIMMO rates the channel red because HandOfBlood also shows 16+ and 18+ games, including war and horror games with violence and jump scares.
  • Tamer content: Craft Attack, “Drei schäbige Spiele”, simulators and many fun formats are well suited to older kids.
  • Horror: horror let’s plays are a fixed part of his content – not for sensitive kids. A look at the video title or the current stream game helps.
  • Livestreams: streams are uncut and long; events like Techno Freitag are loud and hectic.
  • Positive: his fundraisers for the animal shelter and social causes show how reach can be put to good use.

Does HandOfBlood swear?

Sometimes. His streams and videos are in German, and there is occasional swearing and crude humor, especially in hectic or scary moments. If that matters to you, check a video together first.

Has HandOfBlood done a face reveal?

He doesn’t need one: HandOfBlood has always shown his face – in his videos, on his Twitch webcam and at live events.
